EDUCATE.

EMPOWER.

FLOURISH.

We can't wait to help you embark on your parenthood journey. There is a lot of conflicting advice out there, and we aim to ease the burden of deciphering what may be right for your family. Our backgrounds in General Practice, Teaching, Lactation Consultation, and Neuroprotective Developmental Care mean we are uniquely positioned to be both evidence-based and to maximise a secure attachment with your child.

WHAT IS NEUROPROTECTIVE DEVELOPMENTAL CARE?

Dr Pamela Douglas

GP IBCLC and Researcher

Founder of the former Possums Clinic in Brisbane, and the current NDC Institute, her career has been dedicated to developing an evidence-based approach to infant care that improves breastfeeding, reduces infant cry/fuss behaviour and normalises infant sleep.

We have all undergone extensive training in Neuroprotective Developmental Care with Dr Douglas' mentorship. We also bring our own experience and unique expertise to how we support families.

BRINGING BABY HOME:

helping you navigate the first few months with your baby.

This is the only guide you will need. All our advice is framed in Neuroprotective Developmental Care (the Possums Program). Our unique expertise as GPs, Lactation Consultants and Circle of Security Facilitators means we are providing you with evidence-based advice to ensure secure attachment with your baby and allow you to meet their emotional and physical needs, as well as your own.

Over 10 modules we explore the common issues parents face with their newborn. Our modules contain easy-to-digest videos with captions, handouts, and links to parent resources or research papers. 6 months of access means you can come back and refer to the course when you need.

The 10 modules include:

  • Introduction (Who are we? What is NDC?)
  • Preparing to Bring Baby Home (Practical, logistical and emotional)
  • Emotional Wellbeing (Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, parenting values, postnatal depression/anxiety)
  • Feeding Your Baby (Breastfeeding: including Gestalt Technique for pain-free, effective milk transfer, paced bottle feeding)
  • Sleep (Normalising infant sleep, minimising night waking, myth-busting)
  • Settling Your Baby (understanding and managing crying, sensory nourishment)
  • Your Healthy Baby (when to worry, gut behaviour)
  • Physical Wellbeing of the Birth Parent
  • Secure Attachment (including introduction to Circle of Security)
  • Putting it All Together (What we wish we'd known, What does it practically look like?)
